BLF Key Customization

BLF (Busy Lamp Field) keys are the programmable quick-action buttons on your softphone and desk phones. They let you monitor extension status, speed dial contacts, toggle DND, park calls, control call flows, and more with a single click.

Your administrator assigns a default BLF template to each phone type. You can customize your keys by creating a personal copy of any template. Your customizations only affect your own devices — other users sharing the same system template are not changed.

Per-Device Templates

BLF keys are configured separately for each phone type (make) assigned to your extension. For example, if you have both the browser softphone and a Yealink desk phone, each has its own key template. The Settings tab shows a separate Keys card for each device type.

The softphone card is always shown. Desk phone cards appear automatically when you have deployed phones assigned to your extension.

Viewing Your Current Keys

Go to the Settings tab and scroll to the BLF Keys section. Each device card shows the current template name and key layout:

Customizing Your Keys

To personalize a BLF layout, click Customize Keys below the read-only key table for that device. This creates a personal copy of the system template and switches to the key editor.

Note: Customizing creates a copy that is private to your extension. The system-wide template is not modified. Other extensions sharing the same template are not affected.

Key Editor

The key editor is a table grid where each row represents one programmable key. Columns include:

ColumnDescription
Drag HandleThe icon on the left — click and drag to reorder keys.
GroupKey group (only shown for desk phones with multiple key groups, e.g., “Line Keys” and “Feature Keys”).
#Position number within the group, auto-calculated from row order.
TypeThe key function. See the Key Types table below.
ValueDepends on the key type — an extension number, parking orbit, call flow, phone number, or automatically filled for self-referencing types.
LabelOptional display label (up to 50 characters). If blank, an auto-generated label is used.

Click + Add Key to add a new key at the bottom. Click the × button to remove a key. Drag rows to reorder. When finished, click Save Keys — changes take effect immediately.

Tip: Not all key types are available for every device. For example, the softphone does not support Line or Spacer keys, while desk phones support the full set. The editor automatically filters available types based on your device.

Resetting to Default

To discard your customizations and return to the system default template, click Reset to Default on the device card. This permanently deletes your personal template and reverts that device to the administrator-managed default layout.

This cannot be undone. After resetting, you would need to customize again and rebuild your key layout from scratch.
